I wrote this song a couple of decades ago. I was still learning how to foresee the times when my then girlfriend was about to become a little, well, unpredictable. She was likely to be – from my point of view anyway. Probably she thought different about this, claiming that anybody in their right mind could only react like she did to the obvious blunders I made.

Dead wrong of course.

The song effectively mixes country music, Beatlesque harmonies, and a grunge-style chorus. This and the difficult lyrical structure of the verse were probably the reasons why I never finished it.

What Can Go Wrong Will Go Wrong – Lyrics

Let’s go for a ride it’s a sunny day
We’ve got nothing to hide so put on your shades
So I don’t see what I’m doing
Or if a storm is brewing
And it’s a ride to the ruins of
The funny ways we’ve had

Can’t you sense that I feel a bit uneasy
When recklessly you try to tease me
With things I heard you say before
When you meant them. See I’m keeping score
Of the bruises, though I know it’s useless
And for now, it’s not so bad

Walking with you I’m walking on a minefield
Talking to you I’m talking to a time bomb
Didn’t you warn me everything was fine

What can go wrong will go wrong eventually
what can go wrong must go wrong, it’s as plain as can be
Ask anybody ask somebody other than me
’Cause when it comes to this you don’t believe me
